The Office of National Coordinator of Health Information Technology (ONCHIT), on July 7th opened the doors for Open Source participation in their RFP for such a system and Uversa is now putting together a response to implement the OpenNHIN prototype. The following practices have supplied a letter of intent to participate in that prototype as part of the ONCHIT funding.

  1. Operation Samahan, San Diego, CA
  2. Primary Care Coalition, Silver Spring, MD
  3. Bowen Primary & Urgent Care PA, Hickory, NC
  4. Public Health Department, CA (name withheld by request)
  5. Roller Chiropractic, Sandy, UT
  6. Practice Group, HI (pending publicity permission)

The OpenNHIN approach to the problems of interoperability between various practices and EMRs is summarized below. The complete response to the ONCHIT RFP will be available as soon as possible from this site.

  1. Uses Domain Names as Practice Identifiers
  2. Uses Standard SSL and digital certificates for security
  3. Interoperability Server to be written in PHP & Java
  4. Interoperability is facilitated by generic e-business like XML messaging over web services

Uversa is seeking additional participants for the prototype. No commitment of funds is needed for participation. Templates for the needed letter of intent are below and must be signed by the principal of the practice or organization. Not all participants can be included based on criteria in the RFP and Uversa's discretion.

In order to participate in the ONCHIT process submissions must be received no later than 10:00pm on Saturday the 16th of July, although submissions after that are still encouraged. Please fax submissions to 480-718-7948, both documents must be completed in their entirety.
